Just a few pictures from today’s kids class

We worked on the half nelson, and drilled transitions from standing to the ground. Getting ready for the San Jose Buddhist judo tournament this upcoming Sunday!

T-shirts are back in stock

Kids and adult sizes both available. Adult sizes run a little small, so if you normally wear medium, get a large. $2o each. Perfect for Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid, pagan midwinter festival or whatever!

Thanks to everyone for your help with the move!

Oakland Judo has moved in to our new space at 4118 Macarthur Boulevard, just a few blocks down the street from the old location.

So many thank yous are in order. First to our sensei Dr. Alex Feng for hosting us at Wu Tao Kuan since 2012, and to Jose Ortega at our new home Supreme MMA.

It was a wonderful group effort to build the new floor with parents, kids, students all contributing tools, labor, and materials. Special recognition to Justin Travis for driving his truck to Home Depot to pick up plywood and back and forth from the old spot to get us moved, and to Masa Okajima for his carpentry skills – doing all the main sawing. If we count all the kids (who helped glue the foam blocks to the plywood, very important job!) I think there were 15-20 people who showed up over the course of the day to help out.

The new floor feels great!! If you are thinking of building a floor like this at your dojo, contact Tim at Wisconsin Foam. He’ll get you set up with everything you need, including the plans for how to set out the foam blocks, how to lay out the plywood, and more.

Schedule for Thanksgiving week

Monday: kids class as usual
Tuesday: adult class as usual
Wednesday: kids class as usual, no adult class
Thursday: no class

Sunday we’ll be building the floor and installing mats at 4118 MacArthur, and on Monday classes will be there!

Get in touch if you want to help out this weekend, we can use all hands.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Gift Cards Available!

Hey everybody, someone just called and asked if they could buy a gift certificate or gift card to use at Oakland Judo. I had never thought of that before, but why not?

So I went and found some nice gift card boxes that have a card inside, put our logo on the back, and there you go! A nice present. Gift certificates can be in any amount and can be used for any combination of merchandise or memberships at Oakland Judo. Enjoy!
